Day 3 of Soylent

I’m on Day 3 of Soylent. That doesn’t mean I’ve only had Soylent. It means I’ve had it for all meals that weren’t social, or intentionally social.

For example, I had a lunch today where I went and got a burger. And yesterday in the afternoon I had Ramen at my favorite Ramen place, Minca.

But Soylent has begun replacing my throw-away meals. Instead of having a pressed juice each morning, I now have Soylent. Tonight for dinner, I have no plans, so I’ll have Soylent.

Benefits

(1) It’s crazy cheap. $85 for a whole week’s worth of food.

(2) It’s healthy — or so it seems. Usually I eat pretty poorly because I want something convenient. It’s hard to find healthy that is under $15 after tax!

(3) It’s convenient. The whole process involves mixing the powder in water, shaking the container, and then putting it in the fridge.

It’s not a replacement to enjoying food

When I want to eat good food, I still do that. It replaces the mediocre, filler meals each day (like when you’re tired of going to the same damn place for lunch).

How does it taste?

Not bad — and actually my body starts to crave it after only a couple of days when I get hungry. It’s probably because it offers me the nutrients I need, which is ultimately why our body craves things.

It does taste a little grainy, and not very sweet… but I bet it’ll actually start tasting better and better.

Downside

I feel pretty gross after eating the burger this afternoon. It might be because my body is getting used to having Soylent (though it’s only been a couple of days). It could be due to other variables as well… not ruling that out, so will continue to moniter.

Optimistically, it’ll encourage me not to eat stuff that’s unhealthy!
